Atlanta Alumnae Panhellenic Association President Cindy Hale, left, presents the organization’s Panhellenic Woman of the Year award to Kappa Delta Nancy Wright Courtney. An active member of the AAPA since 1975, Nancy was recognized for promoting the Panhellenic spirit through her leadership as former Panhellenic treasurer, past member of the executive board and chairman of various committees through the years. Nancy also has led Kappa Delta at the local and national levels, beginning with collegiate chapter president at Beta Kappa-Tennessee/Chattanooga. She has served as president of the Greater Atlanta Day alumnae chapter and represented all five Atlanta-area alumnae chapters as Kappa Delta’s delegate to the Panhellenic Association. Nationally, Nancy previously served KD as collegiate province president and alumnae province president and was named in 1985 to the Order of the Emerald for her outstanding service to the sorority.
Smiles abound for Greater Atlanta Day alumnae chapter members who took top honors during the Atlanta Alumnae Panhellenic Association’s annual luncheon. AC President Dot Mears, center, proudly holds the Outstanding Alumnae Chapter Award. The group was recognized for excelling in all areas and for its achievement of being named one of KD’s top alumnae chapters for the 2007-2009 biennium.
Louisiana Tech KDs know their Alpha Chi chapter sister as Amy Rogers Talley, but this summer Amy will become known to fans of romance fiction as author Liz Talley. Amy has sold three books to Harlequin Superromance, and the first, “Vegas Two-Step,” reaches bookstores this month. Amy also blogs under the name Liz Talley at www.rubyslipperedsisterhood.com and serves as president of NOLA Stars, a North Louisiana chapter of the Romance Writers of America. Towson University’s top sorority on campus is Kappa Delta’s Zeta Mu chapter! The collegians received the Terri Hall Award, which is presented annually to the top sorority and fraternity on campus, and they received the President’s Cup for having the highest number of Chapter Assessment Program points. In addition, Zeta Mu earned awards for highest sorority grade point average, outstanding philanthropy and Gold Wreath Chapter recognition.

Happy members of Beta Sigma-Southern Mississippi can boast that they brought home the most awards from the annual Greek banquet. Mary Margaret Chaney was honored with the New Member Award for her involvement in the Greek community, and the chapter received awards for public relations, "Living the Ritual,” and risk management. Seven Beta Sigma juniors were inducted into the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society.

In 2009, Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker proclaimed Nov. 20 “Mindy Sopher Day” in recognition of her accomplishments at NC State and her volunteer activities with the Komen Foundation, American Cancer Society and Boys and Girls Clubs. Mindy is an initiate of Alpha Nu-Wittenberg and has served in numerous positions with the Raleigh-Durham AC, including two terms as president.

Felicia Stegeman Lewis, Sigma Pi-Albion, is serving as mayor of the Borough of State College, Pa. An active member of the State College community since the 1970s, Felicia was appointed to the position after the sudden death of longtime mayor Bill Welch. Felicia has served on Borough Council, the Schlow Library Board of Trustees and the Design Review Board. Her community service also includes the Prison Society, AAUW and the Aging in Place movement. In 2004, the Borough Council presented Felicia and her husband, Peirce, with the Legacy Award.
