Daily Planning for Success
To truly be productive in 2010, you have to create great routines in 2009. If you are reading this and you haven't done that, no worries, you still have time.
In order to prioritize your day, you need to plan your day. There is a difference. Prioritizing tells you when you need to do something, planning tells you what it eve is you need to do. So, here are the steps to successfully planning and prioritizing your day:
First - schedule a daily task to plan your day. Put this as a recurring event. You may like to plan your day the morning of. Some plan their days the night before. Whatever works for you, schedule the actual planning time into your calendar.
Second - What opportunities do you have to grow your business? Identify them and then schedule time that day to capitalize on them.
Third - What do you need to do to work on the business you already have? Is there something that needs to be done to close a current client? Schedule that into your calendar
**notice - at this point I am only having you schedule the tasks, not stop and do them. In order to be productive you need to be purposeful. Stopping and starting activities is the worst way to accomplish this.
Fourth - What areas of personal or professional growth need to be explored today? Are there industry updates you need to catch up on? Do you need to finish the industry magazine? Schedule time to do this today.
Finally - JUST DO IT! Be the best you can by sticking to your plan. Realize that roadblocks and fires will come up, but not EVERYTHING is an emergency. Learn to understand when to stop what you scheduled to do and when to keep going. It is in this skill that you will gain true management of your time.
Good luck, and if you need additional help accomplishing this call me. I am happy to be your accountability partner.
