Confidence Coalition Goes Viral!

We are excited to announce the official launch of the Confidence Coalition which includes a viral campaign complete with a video and Web site. You should have received an e-mail with the video a couple of weeks ago. If you missed it, you can view it at www.confidencecoalition.org. It’s a thought-provoking video meant to mobilize women and girls to stand up against media stereotypes, peer pressure, domestic and dating violence, bullying and other issues that can keep them from living the lives they imagine. We invite you to be a part of this powerful movement!

Please share the video with your friends – KD and non-KD – and help us spread the message across the country. You can use the “forward to a friend” option or post something about the video and add the link on your Facebook page or Twitter account. Please encourage your friends to become fans of the Confidence Coalition on Facebook and to join the Confidence Coalition cause.

When you visit the Confidence Coalition Web site, take the time to sign the pledge. We have set a goal of having 25,000 girls and women sign the Confidence pledge in the next month. There are also some tips and confidence-building activities that you can print and share.

We are proud to have some amazing organizations join us in the Confidence Coalition, including Girl Scouts of the USA, Girl Talk, Girls on the Run, America’s Junior Miss, National Charity League, Pink, Love Is Respect, the National Domestic Violence Hotline, and others. We encourage you to find out more about the confidence programs offered by these groups. Information on all of the “Confidence Builders” is listed on the Web site. Many of the organizations are promoting the Confidence Coalition to their members and supporters. Check out the Love Is Respect Web site and the National Charity League e-newsletter.

New organizations and companies are signing on every day, so check back often to see which ones have joined the coalition. And if you are a member of a group or work for a company that would be interested in joining the Confidence Coalition, please share the video with the appropriate person and send us information of who we should contact. You can email us at confidencecoalition@kappadelta.org.

Here’s a quick review of what you can do:

Be sure to read the Guideline sheet to be sure your application is complete. Applications that are late, or incomplete, will not be reviewed by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

If you have any questions about the Kappa Delta Foundation, contact Nancy Church, foundation manager, at foundation@kappadetla.org.

    Helping while Searching

Do you spend a lot of time on Google or Yahoo searching for information on the Internet? Now there is a place you can go to search the Internet while helping the Kappa Delta Foundation. www.GoodSearch.com is a new search engine, which donates 50 percent of its revenue to charitable organizations and schools that its users designate (the other 50 percent is what it uses to run the company day to day). You use GoodSearch.com like any other search engine - the site is powered by Yahoo! - but each time you do, money is generated for philanthropic causes, such as the Kappa Delta Foundation.

    Here's how it works:

    1. Go to www.goodsearch.com (which is powered by Yahoo!)
    2. Type Kappa Delta Foundation into the "I support" box and click on "verify"
    3. Since GoodSearch shares its advertising revenue with charities and schools, every time you search the Web at GoodSearch, you'll be earning money for the Kappa Delta Foundation.

Organizations earn an estimated penny per search. Hence, if 500 people searched four times a day on behalf of one organization, it would earn $7300 in a year. Think how much we could raise if we all used it!

The company launched in November 2005 and has been covered by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Variety and other publications: www.goodsearch.com/Press.aspx. GoodSearch does not require that users sign up and does not collect any user information. They only ask that organizations and supporters help spread the word.

GoodSearch was founded by a brother/sister team, both of whom have extensive and successful Internet company experience, in memory of their mother who passed away from cancer. They wanted to create an organization which gave back to the community in her honor. Their dream is to write millions of dollars worth of checks every year to good causes.

Take advantage of this very simple way to give back to the Kappa Delta Foundation. Every search will help to continue to provide leadership opportunities for collegians and alumnae and help children across the country. Every penny counts!

    Buying Magazines is Easy!

    magazine-prog.jpg

Buying magazines has never been easier or more fun!! Hear what Dot Mears, president of Greater Atlanta Day, one of the award-winning alumnae chapters had to say about online magazine ordering:

"I have worked with the Kappa Delta Magazine Agency as an alumnae chapter president and as a magazine Chairperson and I have found that ordering and receiving the magazines is handled in a efficient and timely manner. Our members are very satisfied with their orders and are planning to renew their subscriptions. This program is a great way to support Kappa Delta while enjoying the magazines of your choice."

For most alumnae, magazine ordering has changed greatly from when you were in the KD chapter, and has become easy and efficient and most of all, reliable. QSP has created a SHORT video that shows just how easy this is….to view click here.

Give it a try today—you will be pleasantly surprised! And if you renew a subscription, you could be eligible to win a $500 cash prize. See below for details.

Reminder-- Magazine Sales/Renewal Program Contest –STARTS NOW!!!

Give the Gift of Literacy During November and December

A magazine subscription is the gift that gives all year round. Susie will surely remember that Aunt Katie gave her the American Girl magazine subscription when it comes in the mail each month. And what child doesn’t like to get a magazine in the mail, addressed directly to him/her, each month? Not only will it make him/her feel special, it promotes reading and looking forward to the next issue.

Any alumna or collegian purchasing/selling/renewing one of the 52 magazines listed in the children’s section on the kd.efundraising.com Web site during the months of November and December will have her name entered into a drawing once for each subscription purchased/sold/renewed. In January, a drawing will be held and the winner in each month will receive a lovely Vera Bradley tote bag¬ valued at $80+ New contests will be announced later.

RENEW, RENEW, RENEW--Wouldn't you rather have your money go to Kappa Delta?

This year the focus in the magazine agency is going to be renewals. When you renew your existing subscription through the Kappa Delta Magazine Agency, nearly 50% of the proceeds of your subscription money goes to the chapter house fund. If you renew directly with the publisher, all of the money goes to the publisher, and Kappa Delta gets none of it. You are paying the same amount of money, either way, wouldn't you rather have your money go to help Kappa Delta?

Studies show that the average household spends $200 per year on magazine subscriptions. If every KD alumna renewed her subscriptions through the Kappa Delta Magazine Agency, it would help Kappa Delta immensely.

Important point: You did not have to purchase the initial subscription through the Kappa Delta Magazine Agency in order to renew through the Kappa Delta Magazine Agency.

QSP has a wide selection of magazines. They have over 750 magazine, book and music titles to choose from and it accepts Master Card and VISA. Because QSP is the largest publisher clearinghouse in the United States, it can offer more choices and lower prices than any other vendor.

Follow the instructions below to take you to the QSP web site dedicated to Kappa Delta Sorority so you can process your renewal.
Go to kd.efundraising.com 1. Type the name of your collegiate or alumnae chapter.
    2. Click on the “Find” button.
    3. When “Search Results” are displayed, click on the name of your collegiate or alumnae chapter.
    4. This will take you to your collegiate or alumnae chapter’s personalized web page.
    5. Click on “Shop for Magazines” to access the online store.
    6. Choose the magazines you want, (be sure to check renewal) and proceed to checkout. The renewal amount of issues will be automatically tacked on to the end of your current subscription.
If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Mize at 901-371-6357 or by e-mail at magazineagency@kappadelta.org.

    JUST ANNOUNCED—RENEWAL CONTEST

Last year, the 2008-2009 magazine campaign resulted in 6,152 renewals. This is great, but we can do better. We have set a goal to increase that amount by 500. So, here is where the contest comes in...

If the Kappa Delta Magazine Agency hits the magic number of 6,652 renewals or above this 2009-2010 campaign, each KD renewing subscriptions herself or selling a renewal will have her name entered into a drawing to win a $500 cash prize!!! The prize will be distributed as follows: $50 to the lucky KD and $450 to her KD group of choice—chapter, alumnae chapter or the Kappa Delta Foundation. Each renewal will receive one entry, so multiple renewals increase your chances of winning!

The important part is that we must reach our goal of 500 additional renewals or more in order to trigger the contest and the $500 prize. So...renew, renew, renew…it is easy to do!

Sales tip: Are you a doctor? Married to a doctor? Family member a doctor? Neighbor a doctor? Go to a doctor? Doctor’s offices (and other health professionals) are great sources of sales and renewals as we all peruse their magazines in the waiting room. What about hair/beauty salons? Same thing…………….they are great sources of sales/renewals.

Any professional that has a waiting room is a great person to approach about renewing their subscriptions through the magazine agency. Then, once they see how easy it is to do, you can just give them a reminder each year to renew.
