Successful Girl Scout activities presented by Kappa Delta chapters:
Eta Alpha, Texas A & M—Eta Alpha has a spectacular Girl Scout program. They hosted a Princess Movie Night, A Girl Scout Founder’s Day birthday party and a Father/Daughter sock hop for local Girl Scouts. At the Princess Movie night, Girl Scouts came to the chapter house, in their pj’s, ate popcorn and watched Princess Diaries. Each girl decorated a crown with a Kappa Delta, to symbolize that every girl is a princes. The girls also went on a tour of the chapter house. Other activities include Daisy Brownie Tea Party, invited local Girl Scouts to participate in the campus Yell Competition with them. Over 150 girls joined them for this event. They have also hosted etiquette dinners, Halloween, Easter and Christmas parties and many other activities.
Nu, Oklahoma State—The Nu chapter has established a very successful Girl Scout program for their area. Some of their activities include donating two dozen goodie bags for the Girl Scouts in the Stillwater area for their trip to Oklahoma City. They hosted a Halloween costume party. They invited two local Girl Scout troops to participate in an inner/outer beauty event, where the girls learned skin and beauty tips while discussing their personal goals and gifts. Chapter members participated in the celebration of 95 years of scouting. Several members are troop leaders.
Epsilon Iota, University of Missouri, Columbia—Have worked with several troops throughout the Council. They assisted a Senior Girl Scout troop with their service project. They invited troops to participate in homecoming activities with them. They hosted a Valentine’s party for a Junior Girl Scout troop. They help local troops sell Girl Scout cookies on campus. Chapter members volunteered at the Girl Scout corn maze sponsored by the local council. They helped plan and staff the Girl Scout “Pink Party” which focused on raising the self-esteem of adolescent girls in the area. At the cookie sale on campus, they asked everyone to buy a box for themselves and a box for the troops overseas and a local Girl Scout troop made cards to send with the cookies for the troops.
Gamma Gamma—Gamma Gammahas created a wonderful Girl Scout program for their area. They work with a local troop every other week, attending meetings. They initiated a pen pal program with local Girl Scout troops. They were in the local Christmas parade with a Girl Scout troop. They also helped a local Girl Scout troop set-out luminaries around town. They created “your beautiful” mirrors for a local troop in conjunction with the Dove campaign. The members decorated the mirrors and added self-esteem sayings to them. They also worked with the local council and received publicity for their efforts.
Zeta Iota, St. Louis University—The Zeta Iota chapter dedicates many hours to local Girl Scouts and to the Girls Beyond Bars program. This particular Girl Scout program focuses on providing positive role models to help the young girls mature, grow and become the young women they dream of being. Some of the activities have included Nutrition 101, Basketball games, Etiquette meetings and a golden award ceremony which provided Christmas gifts for the troop members. Chapter members participated in the Girl Scout Auction in Saint Louis. They volunteered to work with event coordinators to set up for the event, work at auction booths, help with the silent auction and distribute prizes. The chapter has held several sleepovers for the Girl Scouts. They coordinated a Junior badge workshop for local Girl Scouts.
Epsilon, Louisiana State—The chapter worked extremely well with the local council and involved themselves in many council events. They have worked with cookie sales. The Girl Scouts joined the chapter on the parade route of the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. Chapter members created mirrors for local Girl Scouts that were distributed at the Girl Scout “Looking Your Best Event” held at the chapter house. The girls were taught about taking care of their face and hair.
Zeta Zeta, Cal State, San Bernardino—Chapter members worked with the local Girl Scout council to help recruit volunteers. The chapter hosted a “See a Flick with a KD Chick” to raise money to send a local Girl Scout troop to camp. The chapter worked with the San Gorgonio Council on Girlfest, helping to recruit girls for local troops. The chapter sold cookies at its Shamrock Event.
Beta Tau, Vanderbilt—Chapter members worked with both middle and high school girls in the area. They also adopted a Girl Scout troop from the Tennessee School for the Blind. They hosted a Halloween party for local Girl Scouts and a Cookies on Campus project which was a Studio 2B program administered by the Girl Scout Council of Cumberland Valley. They invited local Girl Scouts to campus, gave them a tour, and then paired with Girl Scouts and went around the campus selling cookies. The chapter also hosted an Easter party for local Girl Scouts.
Zeta Theta, the College of New Jersey—The chapter sponsors an annual Girl Scout Day on campus for local Girl Scout troops. The girls visit campus, participate in classes which are organized by chapter members, have lunch and learn about going to college. The chapter also sells cookies on campus.
Zeta Omicron, Wake Forest—The chapter regularly invites Girl Scouts to visit the chapter house and the campus. The chapter has adopted two troops in the area. They held a Project Pumpkin where the girls decorated pumpkins, participated in arts and crafts and went trick-or-treating. They invited local Girl Scouts to the Women’s varsity basketball game. They held a Girl Scouts Sports Day where the girls participated in soccer, basketball, tennis, kickball, cheerleading and volleyball clinics.
